Montoro12 gallery has a particular interest in showcasing international emerging and mid-career artists pushing the boundaries of various contemporary media such as painting, sculpture, installations, video and photography. In addition, the gallery supports the Brussels art scene through an annual group show entitled PERSEVERANCE, which showcases emerging artists curated by gallery director Stefan Pollak.
Founded in 2012 by art historian and curator Ursula Hawlitschka, Montoro12 gallery takes its name from its original address, Via di Montoro 12, in the heart of Rome. After six successful years in the Italian capital, the gallery decided to open a second exhibition space at 67, Rue de la Régence in Brussels. In 2020, the gallery moved to the dynamic Forest district, just 50 meters from the WIELS contemporary art museum. Housed in a modernist building - a former soap factory built in 1941 by architect Merchez Ducarme - MONTORO12 offers exhibitions over 600 square meters, spread over two floors.
In 2019, Montoro12 Gallery has also launched an artist residency in Rome, welcoming creators from around the world and fostering dialogue and creative exchange with the Roman art scene.
